Viking to Asia in 2018

Viking Ocean Cruises has unveiled a series of new Asian itineraries for 2018 and 2019.

The new voyages will enable passengers to board in a series of key Asia Pacific destinations, including Mumbai, Bangkok, Bali, Sydney, Hong Kong and Tokyo, with itineraries ranging from 13 to 23 days.

The ‘Passage to India’ repositioning voyage will see the brand new Viking Spirit cruise ship sail from Athens to Mumbai in August 2018 on a 21-day voyage. The ship will then continue its eastward journey in September 2018, with a 16-day ‘Across the Bay of Bengal’ sailing from Mumbai to Bangkok, via Colombo.

A series of 15-day ‘Southeast Asia & Hong Kong’ voyages will operate in September and November 2018 and April 2019, cruising between Bangkok and Hong Kong with stops in Cambodia and Vietnam. In October 2018 the vessel will also operate two 15-day ‘Capitals of the Far East’ cruises to China, Taiwan and South Korea.

Then in November 2018, Viking Sprit will head to the Southern Hemisphere. The ‘Bangkok, Bali & Beyond’ cruise will call at Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Jakarta en route to Bali, before the 17-day ‘Komodo & the Australian Coast’ cruise takes the ship from Bali to Sydney. Once down under, the ship will operate a series of 15-day ‘Australia & New Zealand’ cruises.

Viking Spirit will then return to Asia with reverse cruises from Sydney to Bali and Bangkok in early 2019, before continuing northwards with another ‘Southeast Asia & Hong Kong’ cruise and a 15-day ‘Far Eastern Horizons’ cruise, which takes passengers to Tokyo in April. The ship will then reposition from Asia to North America with a 23-day ‘North Pacific Passage’ cruise from Tokyo to Vancouver, departing in May 2019.

The Asian itineraries come during a period of significant expansion for Viking’s ocean cruise operations. In 2017 and 2018 the company will welcome three new ocean liners – Viking Sky and Viking Sun and Viking Spirit – the last of which will be used to launch the Asia Pacific itineraries.

These new vessels will take Viking’s ocean-going fleet to five ships, each of which can accommodate approximately 930 passengers. A sixth, yet-to-be-named ship will then be delivered in 2019.
